I had a strange one with a server not loading up the desktop. Usually i would just start task manger then run explorer.exe, this time no good.
“Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have appropriate permissions to access the item.”
Great… Well after 2 hours, and LOTS of playing, i found out that it was Trend blocking out the running of the process
I uninstalled Trend, rebooted and all way happy.
Other things that it could have been were
- Enhanced security it IE
- IE not allowing the running of untrusted applications
- the server address not listed in allowed sites in IE
- windows blocking out the file (right click properties, unblock)
To uninstall Trend, i just needed to run add/remove programs from c:windowssystem32
